Maria is a mute village girl, who lives with her father, goes fishing with him and has distanciated herself from life.

She accidently meets the new teacher of the village, who with great love and care teaches her the sign language. A deep sentiment grows between them. This happiness though is overshadowed by her rape from the richman of the village.

The result of the rape is the birth of a child. Maria never revealed to no one the father of the child except the teacher who had already understood who it was...
